When I joined Sugarmums and became an Independent Mannatech Associate, I must admit it was all about the money. Convinced I would become the next MLM sensation in very short time, I forged ahead, built my business, met some amazing people and I still love every minute of it.

As time passes we can all become less enthusiastic to a degree, however for me it became less about the bottom line and more about what my true values were and what I’d always believed in. My enthusiasm didn’t wane, it just changed.

I had always wanted to have a project or a cause to work on; I wanted something that really made a difference. In the past I’d worked in church and school ventures but had been preoccupied raising my family and just getting on with life.

From the very beginning, I liked the way the Sugarmums team operated. At first it seemed incredible that those people actually went out of their way to help me with no gain for themselves. Oh boy, that was a new concept in the often cut throat business world. That was the first thing to alert me to something special happening within this organisation.

To find that Mannatech was associated with Manna Relief and the Blessing program, designed to provide advanced nutritional support to the world’s most malnourished children, was the icing on the cake.

Getting proper and sufficient nutrients in the first few years of life is critical for proper childhood development. Up to one half of all childhood deaths in the world are related to malnutrition.

Global relief organizations like Doctors Without Borders have called for the development of nutritionally dense, ready-to-use food products to supply to children in need. With my help, that’s exactly what Mannatech does.

TIME MANAGEMENT

I’ve read the books, taken it all in and I still can’t get it together…

What’s that? I hear you asking.

So much to do….So little TIME

Time management lets me down on a daily basis. No matter how hard I try I still end up with heaps to do at the end of each day with absolutely zero energy.

What’s going wrong?.....well lets analyze a typical day.

I sit down at my desk to check my emails and somehow get stuck to this chair for hours on end.

Did you say?” Is that it” well yes, I guess that is IT.

I manage to spend a lot of time on the internet and on the phone, business is going great and I love it with a passion, however the home front is letting me down.

Sound familiar?

I bet it does and I know many of my fellow Sugarmums have a similar problem.

Trouble is we are trying to run our businesses and take care of our families all at the same time.

Something’s got to give I hear you say and I really appreciate your input into this conversation because, at this point, I’m tearing out my hair and begging myself to find an answer.

I’ve thought of outsourcing the husband, the kids, the laundry, the cooking, the garden and the housework - but I really do want to have the best of both worlds. Both my career and my home life are important to me. In fact I would dearly love to work Part Time.

I peek at the diary for the 100^th time and see it’s all over the place again. I take a thick black marker and start getting lethal - slashing great areas, naming sections FAMILY, WORK, MEETINGS, SHOPPING, DOG, HELP…..no time for lunch again, oh well, another enforced diet and since there’s no time for exercise it’s probably just as well.

Procrastination has become my friend and it’s also helpful knowing that, if there is something too awful on the kitchen floor, the dog will gobble it up. It is also a relief to know that, even if outdated and uncoordinated, we are lucky enough to still have some wearable apparel lurking at the back of our closets.

I have decided that being a work at home Mum takes a lot skill and what I’ve decided to do, if I have enough time, is more research into HOW to make it work.

I’m open to suggestions knowing that I can use all the help I can get with this. It’s been great talking to you.

Is a Child’s IQ Influenced by His Diet?

When I read what Dr. Stephen Boyd had written about our kids IQ’s I just had to share it. As parents we always want what’s best for our children, all we need is the correct information so we can implement the best life plans for them.

"It is generally accepted that diet plays an important role in achieving optimal health and wellness. It is one of the three Pillars of Health proposed by the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) in 2010, the other two being nutritional supplementation and exercise.¹ The fact is, the vast majority of people in the developed world do not follow established nutritional guidelines.²

A recent study highlights the negative impact of a typical “junk food” diet high in refined sugar, fat, and processed and convenience foods on the intelligence of infants and young children.³ The authors examined the relationship between diet and IQ in nearly 4,000 children measured at ages 3, 4, 7 and 8.5 years. They were able to recognize three consistent dietary patterns at each of the age time points, which they described as “processed,” “traditional” and “health conscious.” The “processed” diet was high in sugar, fat and convenience foods; the “traditional” diet was high in home-cooked meals; and the “health conscious” diet was high in salads, fruits, vegetables, fish, etc.

The Diet that Decreases IQ   

The clearest correlation found in the study was that consuming a “processed” diet in the first three years of life resulted in a decrease in IQ when measured at 8.5 years. In other words, as stated by the authors, Dr. Kate Northstone and colleagues, the results suggest a “long-term effect of diet on the child’s ability to learn.” You may not know this, but the brain grows most rapidly during the first three years of life. The authors of this study stated, “Studies have shown that head growth during this time is associated with cognitive outcome, and it is possible that good nutrition during this early period may encourage optimal brain growth.” The study also concluded that the “health conscious” diet had the opposite effect, resulting in an increase in IQ at all ages.
Good nutritional intake is vital for optimal growth and development. It is particularly important in infancy and early childhood because it is during these early years that the body’s organ systems, including the brain and central nervous system, are rapidly developing and maturing. The diet not only supplies the energy to fuel this development, it also supplies the vital nutrients necessary for their creation and maturation.
What clinical studies like this clearly tell us is that if the diet and nutritional intake are less than optimal, then the development and function of the brain will also be less than optimal. The other disturbing conclusion from the study is that the impairment in brain function, as measured by IQ, resulting from poor early nutrition appears to be permanent. The loss is still measurable years later. The individual may never reach their full potential. Such is the power of poor nutrition!"
